Amara and her husband were on the last day of their honeymoon. The light at that end of the quay goes warm and low after four o'clock, which is the best time of day for a sitting, and she sat for forty-five minutes without complaint while the seagulls did their best to distract us.

Detailed sittings like this one are drawn on A3 with a full range of charcoal, from a soft vine stick for the first shapes to compressed charcoal for the darkest hair.
